We all have room to grow… no matter where we are planted.

Our psychologists and counsellors are here to help you and your family.

It’s The Vibe

The family room is the heart of the home, where you can relax, chat and be yourself. This is the vibe we've created for our clients, our team and our dogs, Lucy & Lorna. There is room for everyone at The Family Room.

  • We are all parents. Some of us are grandparents. Some of us have been primary and secondary school teachers and guidance counsellors. We have lunch together in the tea room and actually like each other. We have become a family; you can feel those good vibes when you visit us at The Family Room.

  • We have three therapy rooms. They are spaces for children, teens and adults to play, explore and learn. We have games, picture books, coloured pencils, soft toys, whiteboards, butcher's paper, a sand tray and fidget toys. You can even take your shoes off if you like.

  • We aim to be kind, genuine and professional. We don’t try to be the experts with all the answers. We team up to make decisions, develop skills and take the right actions for you and your family. In the process, you become the expert on what works for you. That wisdom enables you to learn and grow beyond therapy.

Our Services

  • We make therapy fun and play-based so your child wants to attend, engage and grow. We partner with parents to ensure we are heading in the right direction and achieving results.

  • We help young people navigate opportunities, challenges and relationships with friends and family. We can help teens learn to balance being kind to others and being kind to themselves. We want our young people to be safe, happy and true to themselves. Counselling can facilitate their personal growth, so it works for your teen and your family.

  • Adults often seek out counselling because of symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression that are making it harder to cope . Responsibility can give life meaning but it can also wear you down. Coping strategies can reduce the stress of "adulting" but it's not the answer. Being an adult does not require you to give up on your dreams or yourself. Counselling can help you to learn skills to live a life that makes time for kindness, connection, self-care and play. It isn’t easy at the start, but it is definitely worth it.

  • Love and connection is a source of great joy when it is present and a cause of distress when it is inconsistent or absent. Our psychologists use Emotion-Focused Therapy to provide a space for couples to explore safely their emotions and concerns, heal from hurts and build a strong, safe and satisfying connection.

  • We seek to understand the emotions and points of friction between family members. Then we can help shape secure connections and strengthen the family unit. This can create a loving, supportive and safe atmosphere at home.
